32 - As 3 Caras do Já" : Usos de already, yet e ever

 Already, yet e ever têm usos distintos, sempre equivalendo a "já". Usamos

already em frases afirmativas, antes do verbo principal, ou entre o verbo auxiliar e o principal:

I already know about this.

This is an easy test. I have already finished it.

Ou em perguntas, geralmente no final, para expressar surpresa:

Have you finished the test already? So soon?

Yet é usado no final de perguntas gerais, em que não se sabe se a resposta será sim ou não:

Have you finished the test yet? 

É bom lembrar que yet pode também ser usado em frases negativas, com "not", quando significa "ainda ... não":

But the other students have not finished the test yet.

E o polivalente yet pode ainda ser uma conjunção, geralmente no início da frase ou da oração, com o sentido de "contudo, todavia, no entanto":

The test was in fact easy. Yet, some of the students found it difficult.

Ever é usado em perguntas, geralmente entre o verbo auxiliar e o principal, com o sentido de "já, alguma vez, algum dia":

Have you ever taken a Spanish test?
